Forterra Wins NTSA Modeling And Simulation Award

Via: Forterra Systems - Forterra and Its Partners Named Winners of NTSA "Modeling and Simulation Cross-Function" Award

Yesterday, Forterra Systems issued the below press release about winning another industry award for its OLIVE virtual world platform.

The National Training and Simulation Association presented the company with the Modeling and Simulation Cross-Function Award at its annual leadership summit in Norfolk, VA.

Forterra, along with its partners IDSI and Rustici Software, won special recognition for being the first virtual world company to integrate SCORM (Shareable Content Object Reference Model) content into its OLIVE (On-Line Interactive Virtual Environment) software.

The SCORM standard allows web based training content to be reused and portable for distance learning purposes. Over the last 10 to 15 years most government and commercial organizations have spent significant money and effort getting their learning content to be SCORM compliant. These organizations are now assured their investments in SCORM content will be leveraged and migrated forward as they pursue virtual worlds for training and learning purposes.

The other two awards Forterra has won recently include the IEEE 2008 Spectrum award for best technology and the Innovation in Virtual Worlds for Enterprise award at the Virtual World Expo.

FORTERRA SYSTEMS AND ITS PARTNERS NAMED WINNERS OF "NTSA MODELING AND SIMULATION CROSS-FUNCTION" AWARD

ORLANDO, Florida — Forterra Systems, a market and technology leader in virtual Worlds for learning and collaboration, announced today that it was awarded the National Training and Simulation Association’s Modeling and Simulation Cross-Function award.

This award recognizes the significant achievements in modeling and simulation innovation by commercial companies and was presented at the 2009 Modeling & Simulation Leadership Summit, 2 February 2009 at Norfolk, VA.

Forterra Systems, along with its partners IDSI and Rustici Software, won special recognition for being the first virtual world company to integrate SCORM (Shareable Content Object Reference Model) content into its OLIVE™ (On-Line Interactive Virtual Environment) software. The effort was funded by the Joint ADL Co-lab in Orlando, FL.

The SCORM standard allows the integration of legacy and new training courseware to be reused and repurposed for distance learning.
Forterra’s OLIVE software platform enables developers to rapidly generate realistic, collaborative, 3D Internet solutions that easily scale from small team applications to large-scale simulated environments supporting thousands of concurrent users.

Most government and commercial organizations have spent significant money and effort getting their learning content to be SCORM compliant. These organizations are now assured their investments in SCORM content will be leveraged as they pursue virtual worlds for training and learning purposes.

The project focused on developing a highly-realistic virtual environment based on massive multiplayer online game (MMOG) technology to deliver cost-effective training capabilities incorporating SCORM content.

A panel of leading Industry authorities judged all the industry/government submissions for their contribution to bringing the most impacting solutions for Modeling and Simulation applications over the last year.

“Every Forterra employee, customer, and partner is extremely proud of the recognition we have achieved through winning this award,” said Dr. Mike Macedonia, GM/VP of Forterra Federal Systems. “We’re gratified that our hard work to enhance our OLIVE virtual world platform to transform learning and collaboration with SCORM content has been so well received. This will enable the development of virtual learning facilities that exploit traditional online-content while providing interactive and collaborative experiences over the Internet.”
