Serious Games creating lifelike experiences in 3D
Following my prior post Serious Games & 3DVIA Democratizing The Use Of 3D, 3DVIA.com has just announced it has doubled in the last month, having right now 2,211 3D Models, 13,583 Users and 57 Groups.
If you are a frequent visitor to the 3DVIA 3D model search and hosting site, you may have noticed the change they made last month to re-launch the site. They report that both the number of models and the number of users on the site have grown considerably since that re-launch. In fact, they have more than doubled the number of users searching for and uploading free 3D content to the site.
If you have not been to 3DVIA.com recently, check it out for yourself - search for a good 3D model, upload a model and participate with the thousands of other modelers on 3DVIA. You don't need to start from scratch.
Start with the best - Remix the rest
When a 3dxml model created in Shape catches your eye, you can use it as a starting point for your own versions and also as a valuable learning tool. A great case in point is the CocaCola truck above (the original 3D Model).
Other Key Updates
There are many other improvements in 3DVIA Shape including better tutorials, help and better geometry manipulation. The following video demonstrates one of the abilities of the geometry manipulation set of enhancements. The video shows how to change the anchor point of a piece of geometry while performing a simple cut/paste action.
