Founded in 1996,
Nucleus Medical Art, Inc. is a leading publisher of online medical illustrations, medical animations, interactive media, and educational material for patient, consumer and professional education.

Located in Kennesaw, Georgia, USA, Nucleus Medical Art is a "hub" of clinical creativity, generating some of the most highly respected digital medical art in the business

Nucleus is a strong proponent of health science literacy, and uses its content and technology to provide medical visual information to students, educators, consumers and learning institutions all over the world.

Nucleus Medical Art's content is seen online by millions of people daily on Yahoo!, MSN.com, WebMD, HONmedia, EBSCO Publishing, DiscoveryHealth and hundreds of other web sites.

The company maintains a proprietary database of more than 20,000 highly detailed, expert-reviewed medical illustrations and animations, most of which are published online.

Each medical illustration, animation and interactive project undergoes a stringent multi-stage review process to insure total accuracy and the highest educational utility, including an initial peer review and critique from graduate-level medical illustrators. Afterward, medical subject experts, either physicians or Ph.D.s, review the content to provide final approval prior to publication.

Nucleus employs a talented team of professionals, including medical illustrators, animators, programmers, designers and project managers. Their illustrators and animators hold graduate-level degrees from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, The Medical College of Georgia, The Rochester Institute of Technology, The University Of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and The University of Toronto.

This 3D medical animation shows a time lapse view of labor and delivery during normal birth in a simplified form with only the mother's skeletal structures and the baby in the uterus.

"Aside from Nucleus, there are no educational sites that have quality images on the net which are easy to use, download, and present", says Abreail Tetzlaff, student at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA.

"The Nucleus images are highly valuable in that they not only give you unique views of bones, arteries, veins, nerves and their relationships but also, very vividly, provide graphics with fractures or clinical complications...", adds Jorge Rojas, student at Loma Linda University, CA.

Maxon, 3D For The Real World - Nucleus Thriving at the Center of the Medical Art Genre

At Nucleus Medical Art, our mission is to raise health science literacy worldwide, using our training as medical visual communicators," says CEO Ron Collins. "We believe medical images provide a universal foundation for understanding health and science, and that all health and science information should include images."

Says Nucleus 3D Animator, Thomas Brown: "My 3D experience lies in the use of MAXON Computer CINEMA 4D, with which I spend 90 percent of my time. We use Studio versions of CINEMA 4D, which contains most of the existing CINEMA 4D modules. My favorite is the MoGraph module, which is intended for motion graphics animations, but has wide application in all areas of 3D animation. MoGraph's ability to generate, modify and animate complex patterns and systems makes it a brilliant tool for cellular and molecular animation. We use C4D for all of the 3D production elements. Animatics are typically preview renders with software shading or OpenGL. Final renderings are produced via C4D's Advanced Render module."

"We recently completed a project for [Biomet, Inc.], demonstrating their new bone growth-stimulator technology," says Brown. Biomet, Inc. is a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of orthopedic-implant solutions for replacement of hip, knee, shoulder, elbow and small joints. "The project was unique in that we needed to take the view from a gross level of anatomy (bodily system-wide, large-scale) and medical device operation to a cellular level of reaction, then deeper to a molecular level mechanism of action, back to a cellular level reaction, and finally back to the gross anatomy level outcome. CINEMA 4D's exquisite materials and Advanced Render module allowed the animation team to render elegant shots at the gross level. The MoGraph module, in conjunction with Thinking Particles and Pyrocluster, was used extensively to develop the complex motions and visual effects at the microscopic level. The result was an animation with a perfect visual arch and continuity, thanks to everything being produced within C4D [and] using modules."

Nucleus also produces tutorial medical device-operation material for clinical clients needing to learn, implement and use such products.
